about

My name is Brian Alson and I am a 20-something tech professional currently living in the D.C. area. I prefer to think of myself as a "User Experience Engineer" and I'm passionate about building useful, usable software tools that help people get more done. I primarily do web design and frontend software development but am also comfortable working on backend systems.

While I still consider myself a Floridian, I haven't "lived" there in a while. I went to college in upstate NY at Cornell University. I started off studying Computer Science and Pre-med but decided neither of those were what I was looking for. In sophomore year, I found the Information Science major and fell in love. At Cornell, Information Science was an amazing blend of Psychology, Sociology, Communication, and Computers that I found irresistible. Where else can you study the AJAX that makes Facebook work in 1 class, then an hour later have another class that examines Facebook's social impact? I also had the opportunity to do research at the Interaction Design Lab mostly studying the use of mobile technologies. I graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Information Science with minors in Communications and Video Game Design.

After undergrad, I moved down to the D.C. area for work and have been there ever since. I finished up a Masters of Science in Information Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in August 2011.

I've been pretty busy lately without much free time, but when I get the chance, I enjoy frisbee and tennis, photography, hanging out with friends, and playing video games.
